Beaumont, Texas. SETx-UIFL Annual Meeting 2022.

This SETx-UIFL purposely centers equity and community engagement throughout its internal processes – to foster these principles across disciplines and generations of scholars – and its interaction with studied communities. The team conducts outreach, engagement, and training in six integrated areas:

  1. Cross-disciplinary learning,
  2. Team science competencies including interdisciplinary collaboration,
  3. Complex problem-solving competencies including participatory, stakeholder-engaged research,
  4. Learning through experiences and applications
  5. Digital learning environments, and
  6. Informal learning/outreach.
  • Activity area 1: Bring the SETx-UIFL team together for shared learning, research, and engagement processes and build partnerships across different institutions.
  • Activity area 2: Co-develop methods across disciplines and with community participants to foster partnerships between institutions and communities.
  • Activity area 3: Commit to understanding individual positionality within research contexts at SETx-UIFL. All researchers critically examine their own social identities, perspectives, and potential biases that could influence research interpretation and participant interactions. Recognize that personal backgrounds fundamentally shape research experiences differently from study participants, requiring ongoing reflexivity and cultural humility in academic work.
